Start with one question: CFE, generator or neither?

Solar on the East Cape begins with a practical question: is the property connected to CFE, waiting for a connection, or relying on a generator? Cabo Solar Experts reviews that answer alongside daily appliance use, roof or ground space, access and backup needs before recommending equipment. A good East Cape solar installation is designed around how the property really runs, not a standard kit.

One coastline, very different electrical situations

Properties around Los Barriles, Buena Vista, La Ribera, El Cardonal, Zacatitos and Cabo Pulmo can have very different access, occupancy and power arrangements. Some towns along Highway 1 have CFE service, while communities such as Cabo Pulmo are off-grid and run on solar and generators. A vacation home used on weekends is a different design problem from a year-round residence with water pumping or a rental with several air conditioners. A place name alone does not tell us whether the grid is available, so we confirm location and service scope before scheduling an assessment.

The climate shapes every East Cape solar installation. The sun is strong most of the year and summers are long and hot, so cooling, refrigeration and pumps can drive use up for months. Panels run hotter in summer, which slightly lowers output, and homes near the Sea of Cortez face salt air and wind. We plan array spacing, mounting hardware and equipment locations with heat, salt and storms in mind.

If there is no CFE connection

An off-grid system must cover regular daily energy, overnight use and periods when solar production is lower. List the wattage and operating hours of refrigeration, air conditioning, water and pool pumps, communications and other large loads. Include any existing generator and the fuel use you actually record. We then design the solar array, inverter, battery storage and backup source as one system. Read our off-grid planning guide for the full load assessment.

A promise of a fixed number of days of battery autonomy without a load schedule is unreliable. Ask for the usable battery capacity, simultaneous-load limits and the operating assumptions in writing.

If the property has CFE

Grid-connected solar can reduce the electricity you buy from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE). It does not automatically power a home during an outage, and outages and voltage dips can happen on the East Cape. If you need refrigeration, internet, pumps or cooling when the grid fails, we assess a hybrid inverter, batteries and backed-up circuits. The size and runtime depend on those actual loads. Our battery backup guide explains what to ask before buying storage. Grid-tied systems generally need a CFE interconnection request and a bidirectional meter, and we help prepare the technical information.

What is included in every system

  • Design: sized from your CFE bills or load list, roof or ground space and goals.
  • Mounting: racking or steel structures suited to your roof, pergola or ground area.
  • Inverter and wiring: an off-grid, hybrid or grid-tied inverter, conduit runs, breakers, grounding and protection devices.
  • Batteries: for off-grid properties or backup power during outages.
  • Commissioning: testing the system and showing you how to read the inverter screen.

Site and logistics questions that affect the quote

  • Location and access: a precise map pin, road conditions and where equipment can be unloaded. Some East Cape roads are unpaved and arroyo crossings can wash out after heavy rain.
  • Mounting: usable roof or ground area, shade, structural condition, exposure and equipment placement.
  • Existing equipment: photos of the inverter, generator, batteries and electrical panel labels, plus manuals when available.
  • Operations: year-round or seasonal occupancy, future buildings, guest use, pump schedules and loads that run together.
  • Service plan: who will check the system between visits and what support is practical for the property.

These facts shape your East Cape solar installation proposal more than a generic price per panel. A written quote should list equipment models, installation scope, access or delivery allowances, exclusions, approvals to confirm and payment milestones. Our Los Cabos pricing guide explains cost factors; its starter packages are not off-grid designs for every remote property.

How the quote process works

  1. Send your location pin, CFE bill or appliance list, and photos on WhatsApp.
  2. We review your loads and design a system for your goals.
  3. You receive a written quote. If details are unclear, we suggest a site inspection.
  4. Once approved, we schedule the installation and commission the system.

East Cape solar installation FAQs

Do you install solar on the East Cape?

Yes. We install throughout Baja California Sur, including Los Barriles, Buena Vista, La Ribera, El Cardonal, Zacatitos, Cabo Pulmo and nearby areas. We confirm travel and assessment scope for your exact location first.

Can you design solar for a property without CFE?

Yes. Start with a load list, operating hours, your location and any existing generator or solar equipment. An off-grid design must cover overnight use and lower-production periods.

How do I get a quote?

Send a location pin, a CFE bill if you have one or a list of appliances with operating hours, and photos of the roof or ground area and the electrical area on WhatsApp. Quotes from photos and measurements are free.

What is the Solar Site Inspection?

An inspector visits your property to review the roof or ground area, electrical service, access and equipment locations so the quote matches the real job. The inspection costs 3,000 MXN, and the full amount is credited toward your system if you buy with Cabo Solar Experts.

How many batteries do I need?

That depends on usable battery capacity, overnight consumption, the reserve you want and the loads that run together. A battery count without those details can mislead you.

Can off-grid solar run air conditioning?

It may be feasible. Send the air conditioner model, quantity and expected daily hours so running and starting requirements can be included in the design.

Will a hybrid system keep my whole property powered during an outage?

Only if the equipment and wiring are designed for those loads. Identify essential circuits and ask what will operate at the same time and for how long.

Do I still need a generator?

A generator may be useful for long cloudy periods or unusual demand. We review whether your existing generator is compatible and how it should fit the operating plan.

How much does East Cape solar cost?

Load size, storage, mounting, electrical work, access and delivery all affect the price. Ask for an itemized proposal for your property rather than assuming a generic range fits your site.

Can you use my existing panels or batteries?

Possibly, after reviewing model labels, condition, capacity and compatibility. Equipment from different systems should not be assumed to work together safely.

What if my property is only occupied seasonally?

Tell us what runs while the property is empty and what changes when people arrive. Standby loads, pumps and monitoring matter even when nobody is there.

Do you repair existing East Cape systems?

Yes, send equipment labels, symptoms and your location so we can discuss an assessment. See our solar repair and maintenance service for details.

Start with the property, then the equipment

We install throughout Baja California Sur, serve northern Baja through local installers and ship equipment anywhere in Mexico. We speak English with US and Canadian owners. Tell us what runs every day, what must work overnight and whether you already have CFE or a generator, and we will plan your East Cape solar installation from there.
